Matariki

For our school Matariki celebration Room 19 made lanterns for the children to use on the walk up the Railway Reserve with their families. We also had our annual Kite flying afternoon. The children made kites and then took them out and flew them on the front field.

Da Vinci's Robots and Machines Exhibition

On Monday Room 19 went to the Da Vinci's Robots and Machines Exhibition at the Nelson Provincial Museum. The children had a wonderful time exploring the wide variety of inventions that Da Vinci came up with. This is a great motivator for our work beginning next term around Simple Machines and how they help our everyday lives.

Nelson Provincial Museum - Minibeasts

Last Tuesday Room 19 walked to the Nelson Provincial Museum to learn about Minibeasts.
Nikki had a very interesting and full programme organised for us and our fantastic parent helpers ran a series of activities that the children moved around.

These included categorising insects, observational drawings, observation using a microscope and visual observations of Powelliphanta and cicadas, finding creatures in a salt water tank, and categorising insects commonly found in New Zealand forest leaf litter.

Have a look at the photos of the children exploring and learning at the Museum.
A huge thanks to the fantastic parents and our Bilingual support workers who also came along to help on the day. Without them these educational trips would not be possible.
